Environmental Justice Fellows plant trees, host celebration

The City of Newburgh Conservation Advisory Council (CAC), Outdoor Promise, and Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy hosted on a fall, sunny-filled day, Saturday, in Tyrone Crabb Memorial Park the Environmental Justice Fellowship program provided with pizza, soup, music, and pamphlets.

You are invited to take a tree survey

The Environmental Justice Fellowship invites community members to take a tree survey for the City of Newburgh. Community input will help create a community-led movement to plant and protect trees in the City and will help to identify areas for fall 2021 tree planting. The Fellowship program will culminate with the planting of 16 trees throughout the city.

Environmental Fellows looking to replace lost trees

The City of Newburgh Environmental Justice Fellows are looking to plant more trees to create a greener Newburgh.“We’re missing 4,000 trees in the city of Newburgh from what we had a few decades ago,” said Kathy Lawrence, board chair of the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy. Lawrence, who appeared at the city council work session last week along with several of the city’s Environmental Justice Fellows, told the council that it’s not enough to just plant the trees, they need to be cared for and nurtured.
